Spotlight on Co-Founder Laura Bourne
What outcomes do you hope to see from starting this initiative?
To firstly, help valuable charities/causes to flourish and accelerate their “doing good”, and secondly, build a network of fabulous marketers and talented creatives who are aligned in the goal of enabling this dream.
Is there a sector/cause that you’re most eager to work with?
Well, to quote Miss Congeniality: “I really do want world peace!”. But, if I had to pick one, I’d love the opportunity to work with women’s charities and the vast range of causes they encompass, from fighting to end period poverty, to tackling violence against women. During lockdown, just within the UK, there was a 49% rise in the number of calls to domestic abuse services (stat from centreforwomensjustice.org.uk).
What skills are you lending to the initiative?
I bring the creative suite, with 6 years experience in graphic, branding, and marketing design, alongside experience in UX/UI design, photography, filming, and very recently a dabble in motion design. From jazzing up a logo, to unveiling a full set of brand guidelines and marketing materials, I can breathe new life into the visual impact of an initiative. I also hold a degree in illustration and would love love love the opportunity to bring drawing or even some painting into the mix (pun intended).
Have you mastered any lockdown skills?
It’s been said that I can now whip up a mean Negroni.
If you had to identify as a plant — what would you be?
Bit rogue, but the Tacca Chantrieri Nivea flower. It’s weird, ethereal, almost cat-like, and has the vibe it listened to a lot of Evanescence back in the day.
Who would play you in the movie of your life?
Lisa Kudrow.
What was your worst lockdown purchase?
A mini strobe light in a desperate attempt to recreate a night at Printworks in my kitchen. Not really sure what I was expecting for £4.99 from the bargain store.
Any book recommendations?
Period Power by Maisie Hill. A must-have for anyone who menstruates, or if you know anyone who menstruates! I honestly cannot recommend this book enough and I’ll forever be calling Oestrogen the “Beyoncé Hormone”.
